How to maintain the luster of high-end TPE?

High-end TPE materials, prized for their soft texture, eco-friendly properties, and aging resistance, are extensively used in premium sectors including plush toys, luxury footwear, and medical devices. For these products, surface gloss serves as a key indicator of quality and value enhancement, with consumers demanding exceptional long-term gloss retention. However, conventional gloss enhancement methods employed by many manufacturers often fail to achieve lasting results, leading to frequent gloss degradation issues.

I. Conventional Methods for Enhancing TPE Glossiness

Conventional gloss enhancement methods have significant limitations and cannot achieve long-term gloss retention. To improve the glossiness of high-end TPE, some manufacturers primarily rely on using lubricants alone or adjusting processing temperatures.

1. While lubricants can temporarily enhance surface smoothness and initial gloss during processing, they fail to address issues like uneven plastic phase dispersion and filler agglomeration. Agglomerated fillers compromise surface flatness, causing rapid gloss degradation. Moreover, excessive lubricants may induce oil exudation, forming greasy films and sticky surfaces on TPE materials. This not only compromises gloss durability but also reduces product safety and user experience.

2. Adjusting processing temperature can only optimize material flowability and mitigate short-term gloss defects during molding, but fails to improve TPE's internal structural stability. Prolonged use may cause material deformation and uneven shrinkage, leading to phase separation and significant gloss degradation, ultimately failing to meet the quality standards of high-end products.

II. Fundamental Solutions

To achieve long-term maintenance of high-end TPE gloss, the core solution involves incorporating specific SEBS grades into the TPE formulation. By optimizing the material's internal structure, this approach effectively resolves all issues affecting gloss durability.

1. Firstly, this SEBS exhibits unique advantages including high fluidity, star-shaped structure, and high elongation. In TPE formulations, its molecular chains can fully extend to uniformly encapsulate various filler particles, effectively preventing filler agglomeration. This ensures homogeneous dispersion of internal components, fundamentally avoiding particle aggregation that compromises surface smoothness, thereby establishing a foundation for sustained gloss retention.

2. Secondly, its low styrene content significantly improves the compatibility with non-polar plastic phases, greatly enhancing the interfacial adhesion between plastic and elastic phases. This reduces phase separation, preventing surface roughness and dullness caused by phase separation, thereby further stabilizing the surface gloss.

3. Finally, this SEBS exhibits low permanent deformation and low volatility. During processing and long-term use, it prevents internal structural imbalance caused by uneven shrinkage and avoids surface defects from volatile substance loss. It maintains the material's surface with a refined luster, achieving durable high-end TPE gloss retention.

Furthermore, by incorporating this type of SEBS and carefully controlling lubricant usage while optimizing processing parameters, the gloss durability can be significantly enhanced, ensuring premium TPE products maintain their superior texture over time.
