The Upstream of Medical Supplies--Medical Polymer Materials SEBS, PP

The virus is merciless, there is love in the world, and we all work together to fight the epidemic. An epidemic has made all kinds of masks necessary for people to travel, and medical plastic materials, the upstream of medical supplies such as masks, have gradually come into people's vision. There are nearly 100 kinds of polymer materials used in medical plastic products, including common medical polymer materials, such as thermoplastic elastomer (SEBS), polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), polycarbonate Ester (PC), polyester (PET), etc.

Styrene-butadiene-styrene block copolymer (SEBS)
1. Disposable infusion set

SEBS has the characteristics of good elasticity, large elongation at break, small permanent deformation, high transparency, good thermal stability, and can be sterilized by steam, ethylene oxide and ultraviolet rays,non-toxic and easy to process. It can be used to make sealing rubber rings for disposable infusion sets and disposable syringes.

2. Surgical gloves
The addition of filler oil can increase the fluidity of SEBS, improve its processability, adjust the hardness of blends and reduce the cost. The organic solution of SEBS oil blend can replace natural latex to make surgical gloves and other products. Because SEBS does not contain unsaturated double bond and has high purity, the medical and health products made of SEBS have two advantages: one is good antioxidant and ozone resistance; the other is that natural latex contains protein, which may cause allergy of some patients, but SEBS will not.

Polypropylene (PP)
1. Mask

Medical masks are mainly made of non-woven fabrics with PP as raw materials. The non-woven fabrics are divided into spunbonded non-woven fabrics (material melt index is 30 ~ 40) and melt blown non-woven fabrics (material melt index is above 500). Medical masks are generally three-layer structure of SMS. SMS is spunbond layer, meltdown layer and spunbond layer. The fiber diameter of spunbonded layer is relatively thick. The main function of the two spunbonded layers is to support the whole structure of the non-woven fabric, but it has little effect on the barrier. The melt blown layer is the main factor affecting the filtration efficiency and product price. The fiber diameter is about 2 μ m, only 1 / 10 of the spunbonded layer, which plays an important role in preventing bacteria and blood penetration.

2. Polypropylene infusion bottle
Among them, polypropylene is widely used in medical catheters, infusion containers, packaging materials, syringes and other fields, with obvious advantages. For example, polypropylene infusion bottle (bag) has the advantages of good chemical stability, no falling off, light weight and good impact resistance. Compared with glass infusion bottle, it is more suitable for long-term storage and easy transportation.
